Minot State University North Dakota Center For Persons with Disabilities Online Programs in Developmental Disabilities

Since 1983, over 20,000 community-based direct support, QMRPs, and management staff completed training in Minot State University's nationally recognized training program. University Center of Excellence (UCE) faculty, at the North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities partner with service providers to ensure that training represents the latest in research and best practice and has direct application to the challenges faced by human service staff providing support to individuals with developmental disabilities in community settings.

This broad-based curriculum is now available to students/employees worldwide via the Internet. Courses teach participants how to assist people with disabilities to take control of their own lives, make their own decisions, and meet the goals they set for themselves. All course requirements can be completed via distance learning formats and practicum experiences completed at the employee's current worksite or a local collaborating entity.

Students may "go to class anytime, anywhere." Some students do all of their course work from home; others have made arrangements to use a computer at their place of employment. Courses are self-paced and based on mastery learning principles. When students meet course deadlines, they have the opportunity to resubmit assignments for a better grade if not satisfied with their personal outcomes. Course activities include online readings, assignments, discussion boards, chat sessions, online exams, and practicum assignments at the student's worksite or a practicum site in the local community.
