Speech - Language Teletherapy

child using the speech - language teletherapy Speech-Language Teletherapy provides speech and language services via the Internet and video technologies. Many rural schools are unable to employ a full time speech-language pathologist (SLP); therefore, these children either do not receive the services needed or have to travel many miles to obtain services.

Speech-Language Teletherapy offers children in these rural schools individualized services from qualified speech-language pathologists at the North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities (NDCPD) at Minot State University. Using interactive voice and video technologies, ASHA certified speech-language pathologists provide individualized speech-language services within the child's school, during the school day. This special video equipment, paired with Internet technology, enables the child and SLP to see and hear each other during live interactive therapy sessions.

Schools may choose to contract with NDCPD to receive speech-language services for their students using this new Internet technology. NDCPD will provide the equipment and the speech pathologists. The schools will need to provide internet connections, a quiet room, and a paraprofessional to assist the child if necessary.
