While many people who work in the disability service community may
benefit from this course, it is written
specifically to meet the needs of those who have contact with people with
disabilities on a regular basis, i.e. direct
support staff and front line supervisors. It draws on the
experiences, responsibilities, duties, and environments familiar to
providers of direct support AND
those who are responsible for creating support environments including Qualified Mental Retardation Professionals
(QMRPs), Program Coordinators, Staff
Trainers, Social Workers, Case Managers.
Comments from staff who
completed the class include:
Ø “Everyone
who is working with any agency should take this class.”
Ø “I
am going to recommend that we use this course for new and veteran staff.”
Ø “All
of the assignments were appropriate and caused you to stop and think about
how you would apply what you learned to life.”
To better serve learning needs of a diverse workforce, accommodations for individual learning needs are
embedded within the course content, learning activities, and
evaluation methods.
